Microsoft Search Engine - Window to the Future of SEO?

By David Casey

SEO experts around the world have grown comfortable in the knowledge that a strong link campaign, some adequate optimization and some semblance of optimized content can help drive clients to the top of search engines.

Google and Yahoo made small modifications to their algorithms over the past few years, however, little has changed the formula for success for search engine optimization (SEO).

SEO experts and so-called experts concentrated on link campaigns above all else and clients were none the wiser because these campaigns improved rankings.

With Kosmix and now Windows Live (which will become the search engine for MSN) opening windows for change that will soon become doors, many SEO experts are concerned about how this will impact their existing clients and future clients.

The future of search engines clearly point to a change of focus from link campaigns based on keywords to content. With a growing demand of Internet users for search results based on the content of a site the future of SEO is now the present.

Virtually all SEO companies optimize a website including titles, tags, internal links and the like. Most of these same SEO firms also concentrate on link campaigns with varying success (the strategy and approach of the link campaign are crucial, yet often overlooked). Few SEO firms, however, take content seriously and that may spell disaster for their clients and their future success.

Content has always been king when it comes to what web surfers want and look for. Content is likely to now become king when it comes to search engine rankings and that means savvy site owners will begin to ratchet up their efforts for increasing and improving website content.

Those SEO firms and Internet marketing firms that already concentrate on content will likely find their clients shooting to the top of the rankings as the sites of competitors that concentrated solely on link campaigns sink faster than a ship hitting an iceberg.

Though Google and Yahoo may not be shaking in their boots over the competition by Microsoft, and certainly not Kosmix, they are aware that the future is here and it is time to reevaluate their ranking system and give searchers what they want - relevant sites based on content.
